Dear Penns Grove High School Students and Families, At Penns Grove High School, we are committed to supporting our students' success beyond high school. On October 30, 2024, all students are scheduled to take the PSAT or SAT during the regular school day. The PSAT and SAT assess the knowledge and skills that are crucial for college and career readiness. These tests may serve as graduation requirements for high school and provide valuable insights into our students’ academic strengths and areas for improvement. Both assessments are now provided in a digital format for a better testing experience. Additionally, your teen can access free full-length practice tests through Bluebook, the College Board’s digital testing application, as well as personalized SAT practice via Khan Academy. On testing day, all students, including part-time Vo-Tech students, should report to their designated testing location. The cafeteria will open at 7:30 AM for breakfast, and students must arrive by 7:45 AM—latecomers will not be admitted. Students should bring their fully charged school-issued Chromebooks, as personal devices are not allowed. Classes will follow a modified schedule to minimize disruptions. Testing Assignments: ● 9th Grade: PSAT 9 ● 10th & 11th Grades: PSAT/NMSQT ● 12th Grade: SAT Thank you for your continued support in helping your student prepare for a successful future. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cara DiGravio in the Guidance Office or an administrator.

Penns Grove High School Senior Day at Salem Community College
Dear parents and staff, I always receive a lot of questions on what exactly it means when the Governor declares a “State of Emergency”. Many think that it means no one is allowed on the highways and all non-essential businesses must close, including schools, but that is not the case. The Governor's declaration authorizes him to “speed State agency assistance to communities in need. It enables him to make resources immediately available to rescue, evacuate, shelter, provide essential commodities (i.e., heating fuel, food, etc.), and quell disturbances in affected localities. It may also position the State to seek federal assistance when the scope of the event exceeds the State's resources.” It is the Office of Emergency Management that has the authority to declare a State of Emergency that could result in the closing of businesses, schools, etc., and restrictions on travel such as occurred with Hurricane Sandy. Therefore, when an announcement is broadcast that the Governor has declared a State of Emergency, that does not necessarily mean that schools will automatically be closed. That is a local decision unless otherwise mandated by the Office of Emergency Management. The attached document articulates the difference between the two.
